Matthew McConaughey (b. November 4, 1969)

Matthew McConaughey appeared as an older guy chasing high school girls in the 1993 stoner flick "Dazed and Confused" (shown left), Richard Linklater's rather disappointing follow up to his beautifully crafted "Slackers." McConaughey shone as the preacher who romances scientist Ellie Galloway (Jodie Foster) in "Contact" (1997), based on the book by VIP Carl Sagan. In 1998 he financed his own project, "The Rebel."

The actor was arrested for pot possession in 1999 after police responded to a noise complaint at his home in Austin, TX. They found him playing the bongos, with a bong (sans -o) at his side. In the nude. In 2005, he was named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, one of several VIPs who have been so honored.

In 2014, McConaughey won the Best Actor Oscar for "Dallas Buyers Club," about a group of AIDS patients who illegally smuggle in needed pharmaceutical drugs in the 90s. Another Buyers Club connected with the AIDS crisis was Dennis Peron's Cannabis Buyers Club, which opened following San Francisco's passage of the first-ever medical marijuana law in 1992.
