Matthew McConaughey appeared as an older guy chasing high school girls in the stoner flick "Dazed and Confused" (1993), Richard Linklater's rather disappointing follow up to his beautifully crafted "Slackers." McConaughey shone as the preacher who romances scientist Ellie Galloway (Jodie Foster) in "Contact" (1997), based on the book by VIP Carl Sagan. In 1998 he financed his own project, "The Rebel."
McConaughey was arrested for pot possession in 1999 after police responded to a noise complaint at his home in Austin, TX. They found him playing the bongos, with a bong (sans -o) at his side. In the nude.
In 2005, he was named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive.
